In relation to my theory, the stairs connected from the squarehouse to the school of architecture
are designed and fitted with night lights to illuminate the way into the school, ultimately using light to
reveal a specific form to our eyes.
The central component of the scheme is the gallery, i have position the gallery to be the
core atrium of the building by having all circulation pass through this space. The reason for this
being that the gallery provides an ephemeral experience as students and teachers alike experience the
mystical patterns cast by the shadows and the sun which are projected onto the ground from the screen.
In my scheme i wanted to establish certain spaces and forms through the medium of light,
and thus from taking inspiration from Tadao Ando's Koshino House, The building is able to change the
users perception of spaces via the relationship between the light and the shadow.
Shadows cast by screen passing into the Studio Spaces

The building aligns and is derived from the theory as
form is being defined by luminosity and shadow, shaping the individuals perception of space as
brought about by the varied openings in the ceiling.

Different tones and colours of light coming through can set an specific atmosphere of the building

these models are really early in the developmental draft stage, but after i have decided to progress with the development of draft model 2 and take that through to become my final model

EXP 3 WEEK 3, THE PLAN

Chosen House: Torus House

Original Plan

Overlayed Program Onto Plan / Draft 1

Reimagined and reconfigured: Plan Draft 2

After taking a look at the original plan and the requirement of spaces, i reconfigured the plan and rearranged the plan. I decided to use the concept within the original plan of having a central atrium that connects everything together. I applied that within the new and re imagined plan draft as the gallery becomes the central atrium in which all the circulation must past through to get to the other spaces. The central atrium will serve as the central component where all the light will funnel through a create an amalgamation of form through the shadows cast by the peculiar building openings and windows.

The concepts In the Model

1.Concept of architectural efficiency in regards to spatial qualities and elements, ( creates a sense of productivity of the space used and building design) which stems from each level seeming overlapping with the previous, creating a sense of flow from floor to floor.

2.framing public space and "forcing" users to experience a particular view on a certain space or object within a space, inducing a entirely new perspective in regards to the "overwatching" and subconscious observation, (allowing for manipulation of certain scenic outlooks).

The theme chosen was sustainability, how this coincides with the selected concepts and the building is that the framing of public space allows for many openings and windows in the building that allow for a lot of natural light to organically flow into the building, but also providing shade when there  is an excess or abundance of light. Also staying true to the nature of sejima and Niemeyer buildings, the design with incorporate clean white surfaces that help take advantage of the natural light flowing through the building, hitting and reflecting off the white surfaces to decrease the need and energy used in artificial lighting. Also the lack of walls defined in the interior in regards to architectural and spatial efficiency of the building also lowers the amount of materials and embodied carbon used to construct the sustainable building.

As a secondary theme, I feel as though the idea of multicultural students and staff of UNSW also coincides with my model as the free flowing fluidity of curved geometry as well as the fluid circulation generated by the layering of levels in my model combined with the lack of spatial definition enables users to interact in the upper spaces of the rest areas as well as waiting for the light rail on the lower platform. the areas are inherently "connected as one public space."

EXP 2 WEEK 3 Lumion Light rail Station

The  concepts that were chosen from Oscar Niemeyer and Kazuyo Sejima were the ideas of using architectural design and structure to framing public space via facilitating particular outlooks and adding layering in design enabled for free flowing fluidity. Both concepts seeking to interlink with the theme of  sustainability as the concept of framing public space creates a multitude of openings and and windows to allow natural light to pass through, hence lowering need for artificial lighting.

Exterior View 1

The intergration of a large bold geometric structure allows for the framing of the Arch which create two particular spaces that allowed users to inhabit and experience particular views. with light rail travelling through the space provided and moving cars underground

Interior View

In terms of the interior the many components of creating layers of levels without extending them to the walls naturally encourages a range of free flowing circulation between floors.

Exterior View 2

curved arch on the second floor creates an inhabitable space that affects how users look into and out of the space.

Exterior View 3

Another aspect of the building that encourages the framing of space is the abundance of windows providing outlooks in all directions. the rectangular patterns situated underneath the curved super geometry allow for the users perspective and view to be "framed" by architecture. sustainability is embodied through the natural light bouncing off the white surfaces decreasing need for energy used for artificial lighting.
